FAQ

Quick questions,
Straight answers.

What sizes does a favicon need?

Browsers use 16, 32 and 48 px icons, usually inside one favicon.ico file. Phones use a 180 px Apple touch icon and 192 and 512 px Android icons. This tool makes all of them.

Do I still need a favicon.ico file?

Yes, it is still the safest choice for older browsers and some tools that look for it by name. Modern browsers also read the PNG and SVG links in the HTML snippet.

Should a favicon use the whole logo?

Usually not. At 16 px a wordmark turns into a smudge. The symbol alone reads much better, which is why Auto picks the symbol when your logo is wide.
